It's only a rumor. It is cold hard fact that if the Yankees let A-Rod go, the Cubs would be the 1st possibility because I can't see him playing for the Red Sox or Angels.
It's also a rumor that he'll buy part of the Cubs.

No decision has been made at this time as to A-Rod's future. He does have the ability to opt out of his contract this year and he is currently negotiating with the Yankees about the possibility of a new long term contract. We are still months away from hearing about a final decision involving this matter.

there is no way that he is going to the cubs next year. everyone keeps thinking it because lou pinella used to manage him in seattle in his younger days. the cubs invested large amounts of money into soriano, marquis, lilly, and derosa in the offseason. there is no way that they will have another large spending spree like they had last year. i would expect him to go to the giants. bonds contract expiered and they have lots of cap space to work with. they need a power hitter to complement their nice young pitching. i also think that a rod will want to surplant bonds as the best player in san fran histroy and hit 800+ homers for his carrer at the place that bonds built.

All that stuff is just speculation. His agent is Scott Boras so it is likely he will go to the highest bidder. Nobody will have any idea where A-Rod will go until he opts out of his contract and other teams can start making him offers.

no. if he does he will lose all credibility as a "team player" and be known as the guy who just went after the money no matter where it took him. he is stuck at the yanks for a while.
