I say an eye for an eye.
If they committed murder, then yes.
If they stole, cut off their hand.
etc, etc.

So you want to institute the death penalty for something as minor as shoplifting?
The prison system is overcrowded and your draconian solution would be totally unfair. You can't change the sentence of a person once they have been sentence unless you hold a new trial for them so that won't work.
We do have a problem with overcrowding and the Pelican Bay prison is the result of the end of a continued progression. In states with the death penalty if a prisoner commits enough murders then his sentence will finally be changed to one of death. In California though, with no death penalty the prisoners just get sentenced to longer and longer prison sentences and it no longer matters to them. This is why Super Max prisons had to be built. These prisoners are just too dangerous to keep in any other situation. They are frankly just too dangerous to live. This is why society has the death penalty.
I happen to think that we are too easy to use the death penalty, but people like John Wayne Gacy will never be a threat to society again, he was executed. Charles Manson is as crazy as ever, and still in jail. If he escapes he has said that he will go back to his old ways. He has branded a swastika on his forehead just to incite racial hatred and bring out the race war he predicted so long ago. As long as he contiues to live he is a risk to society. However, since he didn't do any of the murders, only incited them, he can't be convicted of murder so he is not subject to the death penalty.

Hi,
I think it would definetely fix a lot of issues, but it would create a lot as well. So many inmates still have trials pending, and a lot of them are actually innocent. That would cause much grief for their families. A lot of them are getting out soon, have children, etc. etc. As far as the ones that have been convicted of murdering people, in jail for life, or awaiting death row, maybe they should. But there are still thousands upon thousands who will get out, or who are innocent and be let out. It gives people jobs as well.

My personal opinion is that anyone sentenced to death should be given one appeal and one only. Stop letting the file appeal after appeal and we end up housing and feeding them for 20-30 years.
Let them have the one appeal to make sure everything was done properly, then carry out the sentence.

wouldn't that be just lovely.... but i believe some people depending on what the crime is deserve 2nd chances, not mention people can change, not to mention that anyone that believes in GOD will tell you that's a sin, and not everyone is for capital punishment.
We'll never be able to start over because children are committed crimes, children growing up into adults are committing crimes as well.. Hell, we got people in office committing crimes... It's a cycle and it'll never end unfortunately...

No - that'd be silly.
Execute EVERYONE in the penal system ... so it doesn't matter if you're in for unpaid parking tickets or mass murder... you're just dead because you're in the system??
That makes no sense.

Nope. I'd just send them to Iraq, and if they want to come home, they can start walking.
