I counted about 50 on the website, did I really count right? Because it seems like such a big number in comparison to players on a basketball team. (I'm kinda new to football, so please excuse me)

Each team has 11 players on the field at a time. However, teams may substitute for any or all of their players, if time allows, during the break between plays. As a result, players have very specialized roles, and almost all of the 46 active players on an NFL team will play in any given game. Thus, teams are divided into three separate units: the offense, the defense and the special teams

The max is 55 players on 1 team but some teams have less so if you counted 50 it could be right.

It is about that many because there are 22 starters on a football team and only 5 starters on a basketball team.
