I am takin this info from a book that I received from my OB/GYN. It is called a Miracle in the making. Ovulation occurs ONCE during the cycle, usually 14 days after the first day of your period (if ur cycle is 28 days). Clinicians advise having intercourse starting 5 days before and continuing a few days after you expect to ovulate. Ovulation can be difficult to determine b/c it can be delayed by stress or an infection. You are the most fertile on the DAY you ovulate, b/c that is when the egg is released. The egg can linve for 12-24 hours and the sperm can live inside the womans body for 3 or more days. Hope this helps a little.

Actually, you are fertile for about 5 days before ovulation and 12 hours after. You can't technically get pregnant before you ovulate, of course. The only time you can get pregnant is when the ovary releases a mature egg and for 24 hours afterwards until the egg starts to disintegrate. The reason you can be "fertile" up to 5 days before is because the mans little swimmers can actually live in your body for up to 5 days. Really. Kindof weird eh? So, they could technically travel up there and wait until your ovary pops an egg.
When are you the most "fertile"? I would say about 2 days before and 1 day after -those three days are your best shots.
How do you know? Look for signs of ovulation. Lots of clear egg-white like cervical mucous. -And your cervix recedes higher and opens up a tiny bit -if you are brave enough to see where your cervix is. ;) These are all signs that your body is sayin...ummm...I'm slicked up and ready here... You get the picture.

You are fertile during ovulation but you want to plan intercourse in the 3 or 4 days leading up to ovulation. The egg only lives on average 12 hours and sperm lives on average 3 days so you want the sperm waiting for the egg to be released. There are many methods and things to do to determine when you ovulate. Read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" to help you out with this. My doctor recommended it and it is a great book. Best of luck ttc!!!!

If i am correct in the last 2 weeks earlier than her period (As that is when the egg mobilephone settles in the uterus). Although less normal, it can be viable for a girl to turn out to be pregnant in the course of her period.
