don't blame this on "men". I dont know why HE does it. Maybe he finds himself more interesting than he does you.

Not all men are like this. Labelling or stereotyping without knowing us all is very inconsiderate. I have always listened to my wife. I even help her with her problem with a quick solution. Even her female friends I listen too.
That would be like us men referring to all women as stuck up, materialistic gossip mongers.
I know people that have a bad experience with what they think is love and instantly say that love doesn't exist. Approach the formality from a different point of view rather than mark us all.

We men use a thing called filtering...... we listen to what you say and disregard anything that is not for the better of mankind.... most of the time when the wife is droning on i just respond by saying uh hu or ummmmm or yes dear..

I think this is fault both sexes have but I agree it is men who are the most blatant. I do not know why we do this. I must also do it so i will try to improve because it is rather discourteous

He's not really listening to you, wants to talk more than he wants to listen. Doesn't think you have much to say...

SOME men can be a bit like dogs. They pick out the words they want to here or understand. For example:
"....football.....pub.....sex.."
LOL I knew that would get a thumbs down. I'm just surprised it's not more.

I think it sounds like he's avoiding talking about his past, try asking him directly about when he was younger.
