I think it is bad. I am a high school teacher, and RAP music is the favorite of almost all my students. When young people hear profanity in music (and television and print media) they think that it is acceptable. And the MORE they hear it, the MORE acceptable they think it is. Ten or 15 years ago, when profanity was less prevalent in rap music, my students did not use so much profanity in their daily speech....but now it is all around them....and they use it too. AND YES, I am an advocate of parental advisory labels on CD's....

Good
1. Life isn't censored why should music be.
2. Creative freedom to the artist.
3. You hear the same things everywhere else.

And let me point out that rap isn't the only type of music that uses profanity. They also curse frequently in rock and heavy metal.

And profanity is used on TV, movies and in books.

Personally I think it's bad. 1st I'll say It's not just rap music. It's one thing to cuss on a record if you are really expressing yourself or to express one's feeling but to cuss just to be cursing or because one wants to be or sound hard (hardcore) is another matter that I don't condone. Common (Common Sense) is now cussing when he doesn't have to and it sounds stupid when he does.Teenagers look for the parental sticker on CD's because thats what they want to hear the explicit parts of the song. Personally I feel like I'm being cussed out when I listen to certain songs. You take a song like Brotha Lynch Hung - Had 2 Gat Ya some parts of the song sound like a KKK rally song but the beat is straight funky. I believe in freedom of speech and parents have the responsibilty to teach their children right from wrong & fair from foul. Let me give you a couple of real examples. I'm at the gas station & Juvenile is blasting out the car & the 3 children in the car are singing "Back that *** up " (*** is not a cuss word.) Second example I'm in the car listing to Ice Cube It was a good day with my kids & they are singing along and when it gets to the part that says " Got me a 64' & I can make the Azz drop ", I correct them and say that's but drop for you Butt Drop get it. The bottom line is parents have to teach their kids. Grown ups can listen to what they want.

good
-there's profanity in movies
-there's profanity in certain tv shows
-there's profanity in real life

if no one is complainin about it 24/7 in 2/3 of those listed, why cry about it in rap music? if people dont wanna hear it, they can buy the edited version or not listen to it at all

there's good & bad to everything...some of u people would rather just try and point and the negatives instead of pointing out the positives

If the person doesn't like hearing profanity then don't buy the CD or just buy the edited version.

as long as it's not a crutch for lack of lyricism, then that's just how life is whether we all like it or not. Check the song "potty mouth" by Ugly Duckling.
