I have a samsung CLP-510 colour printer. An error message reads;

" Replace/Install waste toner tank"

having contacted local office supplies, they advised the toner tank could easily be empited into a bin bag rather than buying a new one.

thus it has been totally emptied & correctly replaced - fitting in nicely. but i can't get rid of the error message - it's still telling me to empty it & hence will not let me print nor operate any of the menu buttons.

I have turned it off & on, reset it, checked the online instructions which simply suggest i do what i have done - but it still won't clear the message, & still won't print!!

Please help, i need the printer desperately
thanks so much

There is a sensor switch under the Waste Toner Tank that reads a light. When toner fills up to that level, it stops working. You can take the toner waste tank out and flip the switch so it's open. If its still not working you have a poorly working sensor that must be repaired by a Samsung representative. This is a known problem.

Hi. These printers use a chip to keep track of how much toner is where. http://www.ink-refills.net/samsung-clp-510-smartchip.html has a resetting chip. Never tried it but they are supposed to work. Cheaper than a new toner cartridge. (I know it's your overflow tank, but the chip may still be telling the printer that it's full.)

You either have a hard electronic error (that requires professional servicing), and/or a printer driver problem. Try going to Samsung's web site and downloading the latet driver for your model, unplug your printer, reboot your PC, then plug your printer back in and see if this fixes the problem.

If not, decide if it's worth the mininum charge (I believe around $65), to have Best Buy look at it and try and fix it. If it were me though, I'd just watch the Sunday Best Buy, Fry's and Circuit City ad and wait for a good deal with a rebate and then junk the old printer, as it's likely obsolete by now and not worth the cost to repair.

Remember, that waste toner tank was being filled with powder.
If the tank was full, the path the powder took to reach it might now be blocked, use an Air Blow spray bottle to clean that section.
