No, I don't believe us as humanity and live up to our full potential. I do believe there are some people though who do try to. some succeed. our humanity will eventually come to an end because no one wants to take any responsibility or credit. A pretty high amout of our humanity is LAZY. I seriously think we need to reavaluate ourselves.
good question though =)

Heavens no. It was once said that people in general live in a house. Some in the basement where they just accept whatever comes day by day never trying to make it better. The others live in the first floor, little better folks, jobs, kids, vote, try to do what's right. Then there are those who live in the attic. Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Bill Gates, Oprah, Dr. Phil, a lot of politicians and a huge bunch of guys and gals who enter the military. Most of us live in the first floor, we keep on keeping on, but, don't really reach. But, we are doing the best we can because few can be Mother Teresa for a lifetime.

I think that "human potential" is incredibly huge, given that evolution keeps going. However, I think that right now, with the unbelievably enormous human population on earth right now, we have stagnated and slowed to either a crawl or a stop in terms of progress as a species. Of course, some diseases are on their way to dying inevitably, like Tay Sachs, which kills the very young. However, with our very modern health care methods, people who would normally die of their genetic defects are living to an age where they actually can reproduce and share their genes. Survival of the fittest is sort of the opposite of what we are going for. More, we are saving all of those who would be eliminated in a normal Darwinist setting, and they are being incorporated into the gene pool. Human evolution has stopped; evolution is based on survival, and we don't really need to worry so much about that anymore in our evolutionarily stagnant world. I don't necessarily believe the problem is that we have reached our full potential, but that we are keeping ourselves from it.
I am in no way trying to spread some sort of twisted gospel of social Darwinism. No, I actually believe that people should live. But there is obviously a crisis on earth. I don't have any miracle proposals. I believe that the natural way of a species is to trim itself as it goes along, per say, maybe split itself into new branches, but keep itself streamlined enough to adapt and survive, with room to grow.
What has happened to us is that we have developed a level of technological advancement so high that it is interfering with our progress as a species. Imagine a tree, the family tree of all organisms, and now imagine that one of its branches has grown monstrously huge, choking some of the other branches and hogging the nutrients. Instead of what would normally happen: new branches developing up and up, gracefully extending towards the stars. We have turned into an obese mass of...human. And instead of a smooth ascent, shedding little pieces as we go, we may be in for a painful crash. The family tree can only hold onto that enormous tumor for so long before a small shake or disturbance sends it pummeling down into nothingness.
NOW, another possibility. Think of technology as a magical wing that the branch has developed. Will that wing be able to keep up and support the growing weight of our species? Will we even be able to develop technology to the point that it takes us soaring TO the height of full human potential? Of course, what comes up must come down...though that may be a different discussion.
Really, it is a question of whether or not our technology will destroy us as a whole, or take over as the new evolution.
Fascinating to think about. Nice question...

How do you distinguish the potential from the actual as for humanity? Individually I would say not, if by that you mean at the top level of energy. It would beget an accelerated exhaustion of individual strenght, in some way youwouldburn the candle at both ends. We usually have peaks of energy out of a plateau of mild activity, and it is possibly fair that way.

It is not possible to achieve our full potential. There would be no such concept as potential if it were possible to be perfect. And I think that in some ways we do really good things that get us further towards our potential, but there are others things we do that take us in the opposite direction.

No. One reason is, that now a days we have lots of people with power that impose what they say are their belives on the less powerfull or powerless to manipulate them into getting what they need from them to stay in power. Institutions are perfect examples of mind control designated areas that manipulate human thought. We growup knowing the limitations that are set for us in our institutions and so eventually we build barriers, walls in our minds that become too strong for us to destroy or breakdown when we feel trapped by them. So it becomes a lot easier to sit there and wait till it's all over, death. The same thing we do to our pets is the same thing that gets done to us. In a much more sophisticated level of course.
Another reason humanity does not live up to its full potential, is that, it's really hard to find some of those things that really are for the progress of humanity. We all know that we need to cultivate fruits and vegetables to have something to eat to keep us living healthy, but this is not what I'm talking about. Selfish people have brought humanity to eats knees and so we work for them to have something to eat, to watch, to distract us. A pathetic life style if you ask me, (not intending to insult anyone) but do we have a choice now a days. Yes the other choices are death or imprisonment. So we got to play it safe because we are afriad of getting hurt. It's not our fault but it is what it is. That being said there is no room in our minds to be able to find those things that will help cause human mental and spiritual advancement to a very high degree or highest degree for that matter. Very little people achive that in this life time and even then is with hardship, only because someone else is trying to break them from the habit by force. Your sorroundings cuase you to disfocus from mental advancement because they would like for you to focus on them instead.
So, no and won't is my answer to the question.
But with hope and lots of thinking without distractions anything is possilbe. Just like actual human levetation and telekenises. So you can say about me that I remain optomistic.

No, I don't think we do. I think for myself that would be a lot of work and I don't think I want to put that much effort into it.
