I'm 34 weeks along with my first. Sometimes for the last month I got this swelling in my crotch. Normally only when I was...excited (you know what I'm saying!)

The labia and clitirous swell up like a balloon and I had to ice them or sit in a piping hot bath to get them to go back down.

Now its happening a lot! almost every day whenever I sit up for awhile. It never happens when I'm laying down or walking.

Ive tryed sitting on pillows, sitting up straighter, putting my legs in different positions, but nothing helps other than laying down, walking, icing my crotch for an hour or sitting in a steaming hot bath.

Once its all swollen down there it burns like its hot, and it itches like mad! I know its not an infection because I just got another exam last week, but forgot to ask about this swelling.

I can always get it to go away but it takes forever! I'm so sick of not being able to sit down!

Did any of you get this? Is it serious? Asking my doctor tomorrow but anyone have any advice?

I had a pelvic exam 2 weeks ago, and don't have any abnormal discharge or any other symptoms at all unless I swell.
I wasn't swollen when I saw my doctor 2 weeks ago.
It isn't a constant swelling just when I get *excited* or sit in an upright position for more than an hour or two.

I'd bet anything that there are thousands of women who will see this, and at least a few of them will have experienced something like it. So you WILL get helpful advice. Or the doctor will have heard of it somewhere in his past. When God made women capable of becoming pregnant, He seems to have thrown in some strange side effects.
Good luck, dear.

What an interesting question. I did not experience this....but, to reduce swelling while you are pregnant, you should lie down on your left side. This pulls the baby away from your liver and gives it a chance to remove the extra fluid. Definitely talk to your doctor about this. How do you know it's not an infection? Did you ask the doctor about it--with all the symptoms? I'm wondering if you are blocking a nerve or something when you sit down.....

I had that but AFTER i had my son, I ripped before they could cut me (down there) and after I got stitches even while i was giving birth i swelled (is that a word??) up. It was awful, It hurt so bad that they were giving me two kalodpens (sp?) and two ibuprofens every couple of hours, they would tell me to put an ice pack on it for a while but to take it off for a while too. I had to get one of those donut things to sit on cause it was the only relief i got, it hurt very bad. Mine wasnt really serious, just painful but since you havent had your baby yet I would call the doctor now and not wait. good luck

Oh my gosh I had the same problem as you did back from my 35th to 37th week. Usually it was after I had sex. I would get really, really swollen down there and it hurt so much that I wanted to double over. My doc gave me all the suggestions of baths, ice, ect but it didn't help. Only time did. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help! i hope your problem goes away and you get some relief.

Isn't it amazing what our bodies can do when we are carrying a child? I am 32 weeks pregnant myself and I found this website below that answered alot of common pregnancy concerns. Take a look, the link is specific for the swelling!

it could just be the extra fluids and blood..you know rushing down to the ********. I would say take it easy on the hot baths try not to have em too hot bc it will raise your body temp which is no good for the baby...

feel better!

Let me say I am not a doctor. But there are sites that can tell you if that is normal or nat. like webmd.com, ivillage.com, about.com. maybe you can call your gynacologist. dont ignore it. I hope you can find an answer soon.

Sorry, I have never heard of that. How irritating! I hope your doctor can tell you the cause, and hopefully a solution that works.

It sounds like hormones, I wouldn't hesitate to call your doc. It could be a side effect of something serious.
