I just bought a new (larger) hard drive as my old one is showing signs of age. I have a lot of files that I'd like to put on the new hard drive. I also have game data on the old one.

How can I move everything from the old drive to the new one without causing problems with my applications? If I use a cloning application will it move the registry too?

Thanks!!

Actually the combination of DZE and Cirric's answers are both correct although they are different solutions for different issues.
DZE's answer is a solution if you want to keep your full installation including installed software and drivers along with files.
If you are going to reinstall a fresh operation system, programs, and drivers on the new hard drive then Cirric's solution might be easiest since it does not require you to understand and purchase another product just to copy over files. Like he said, make one master and the other slave and boot off of the newly installed hard drive and drag files from the drive letter you will see in "my computer".

Good Luck!

You are going to have a problem because you need both drives connected simultaneously to the laptop to clone the old one to the new one. So you need a USB enclosure for a 2.5 inch drive or some other adaptor.

Cloning copies absolutely everything, including files and partitions that are not visible to Windows.

Hi. Install both drives to the wiring (does not have to be in the case) with your old drive set to MA jumper in back and your new drive set to SL. Copy the files.
