car has problems accelerating it is worse from 0-40 but then its fine.. i think maybe something with the engine.. had car in park and hit acceleration for a second to see if it was the engine and it didnt want to rev up maybe a timing problem or something?

It could be a clogged air or fuel filter, a sticking brake booster or cylinder, a dragging brake, a tranny problem, or a bad catalytic converter. It can also be bad fuel.
A simple way to check the bearings is to see if you can push the top of the tire sideways with your foot. If you can and there is a clunking sound, you need bearings.

My guess would be a bad brake booster. Try lifting the brake pedal with your toe right before hitting the gas after a stop. If that helps the brake booster is sticking. This was a common failure in the older Ford Taurus, it might be a problem in the Focus.
In the taurus, the booster would either fail to release when you took your foot off the pedal, or would delay releasing, thus keeping the brakes applied.

A clogged filter, faulty catalytic converter or bad gas will also cause the engine to idle erratically or die at stops.

i had a escort back in high school, had the exact same problem... i took it in several times, finally it was the obvious and a local garadge mech found it... a cloged cadaladic (sp?) converter. worth looking into...
