Halo 3 Paper Mache Suit.?

Question

I'm creating a Master Chief suit for Halloween. I used blender and pepakura to make the pieces so they fold together. I made them out of cardboard and glued them together with hot glue. Now I would like to paper Mache over it and sand it to look smooth then paint over it. Any suggestion on what paper Mache I should mix up so I can sand it smooth and so it is strong?

I wonder if you would have better results if use some thick corrugated cardboard to build out the thickness you need, and then glue one layer of shiny posterboard over it.
