Well, whereas a hotel might include an onsite restaurant and/or pool, etc., a resort will typically have much more amenities -- several restaurants, a spa/health club, concierge, etc.
Many resorts feature a waterpark or winter ski-in/ski-out capability, for example, where a hotel would not.
A hotel is also one step above a "motel", which would just have rooms and the basic amenities (ice machines, etc.).
The bottom line is that a "resort" will have everything you need for your entire stay, so that you wouldn't have to leave for anything...
Does that help?
