Only Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill can know the answer to that with 100% certainty. I suspect the truth was probably somewhere in the middle; that Thomas was being sexist to the point of harrassment, but honestly was unaware of how obnoxious he was being, and that this is part of why Hill did not pursue the matter more stringently before his nomination.

I don't know what Anita Hill's politics are, but they have to be better than Clarence Thomas' poisoned Liberalism.
He makes me sick! Fortunately, Cheif Justice John Roberts can keep him in check this year!
God Bless America!

Clarence Thomas seems like a bitter old man who sees himself as a poor victim of what he views as racial inequity. He should be proud of what he has achieved no matter how he did it or what he went through and encourage other people to do the same. Instead he whines about the tough road he had because of his color and blah blah blah. We all have times of hardship. People usually don't make claims of harrassment unless there is something to it. She may be over blowing the situation but there probably is some shred of truth to what she claims.

8 years later and Anita Hill remembers everything word for word?
Please, she was just a bitter underling who wasn't promoted.

Hill is a liar and Arlan Spector, of all people, set a trap for her and caught her in it. That's why the hearings had to abruptly adjourn. That's why Hill had to change her story when they came back from the unscheduled recess.

No one will ever know. He said one version of events, she said another. Since they were the only two people present, no one will ever know which is true and which is false.

That's a very good question. I don't think we'll ever know for sure.
