when was the last time you do a oil change to your trans?
im 99% you never do that so to fix the leak problem depend on what part of the trans is you have to take the oil out, fix the trans and then when you add new oil then you will have a massive problem, because new oil came with a huge amount of detergent for cleaning inner parts and in some cases wear the clutches to so all that dirt will clog your small trans parts and that is meaning of TRANS REBUILT
leave the leak like that but.... with the pass of the years you will need a new trans that is for sure

All of these are legitimate answers. However, if it is the your transmission going bad, swap it for a used Japanese transmissions, It will be a lot cheaper, take less time to get your car back to you and there's either a 6 month or 12 month warranty- same warranty you'll get with a tranny rebuild. Your car isn't worth very much eventhough Proteges are good cars. A tranny swap from a shop will cost you about a 1/3 less than having yours rebuilt. I know that the rebuilt has all new parts but it will cost you more than your car is worth.

Have you checked your trans fluid level? Power steering as well as transmissions use the same fluid. Put a newspaper under the car to pinpoint where the leak is. A common leak area is around the axles where they go into the transmission. Have you replaced a CV joint recently? They may have reinstalled the axles incorrectly.

Assuming you have an automatic, you need to get this fixed asap. tranny fluid is it's blood without it it will die. Take it to a shop and have the transmission filter changed, but buy your filter from a parts store first it will more than likely come with the gasket. If the leak is coming from somewhere other than the filter pan, the cost will usually outway the vehicles worth unless you find one of those magical trans shops that dont murder people with $$

You need to take your Protoge into a good mechanic and have it checked out. You could have a seal blown. You could have a leak from another source. You could also have the tranmission drain plug leaking. However, you will not know for sure until you have it checked out. Lastly, you need to check the fluid level and make sure it is not getting low or you will be losing your tranny soon.

you just said it was leaking transmission fluid.. you're leaking trans fluid.
have it checked.
it may be a gasket or it may be a seal.. either way, the repair is probably more than what the car is worth
