Hi,

Maybe you can reboot the system, and go in to DOS mode. Go into the DOS mode, and select Last Known Good configuration or safe mode.

This might help you. Let me know if it doesnt work

Sounds like something has happened that corrupted the profile on the computer (that is the directory that ahs the icons, etc that load when log on).

Trying bypassing the profile by booting the computer into Safe Mode. Turn it on and begin to repeatedly press the F8 key until you get a screen that offers you the Safe Mode option. Select Safe Mode and let the computer continue to boot. It may look different then normal when booting and come up with everything larger then normal. Often just booting the computer in Safe Mode will fix the problem. Reboot it and see what happens....

If it still does not come up, then do the C+A+Delete, and select that you want to start a new task and type in "explorer" as the task. That should force the desktop and icons to appear, overruling whatever is hanging it in the background.

Once you get the computer up, you should do a "scandisk" to fix an bad files so that the problem does not repeat.

Well you see, windows 98 is a very old operating system. now the only people who use windows 98 are hackers and gamers. Even then they use Windows 98 Second edition which is a bit better and things like this happen less offend which sadly makes you reinstall windows all over again. Those game are probably the reason seeing most programs made today are for 2000 or later. Meaning 2000, xp or vista. So I would say wipe the partition, install one of the three operating systems and get some good anti-virus. I am sorry for your bad news.

The computer is too old for the newer games. '98 is considered very old now and is not even supported by Windows or Microsoft. Start saving up your pennies for a new computer. Most have games already downloaded. The best time to buy a computer is in July. That is when the best sales are on. Keep checking your Sunday ads and watch the prices.

It would make a great Christmas gift for you. Start hinting. :o)

Restart your computer. Right at the beginning (as soon as the gateway sign disappears), hit the F8 or F12 key. That should take you to a screen giving you the option to start with safe mode. Select safe mode, once windows has started up, go to start> all programs> accessories> system tools> system restore. At the systerm restore screen, select a date your computer previously was working fine, let it restart, and everything should be back to normal.

Some games will not run on windows 98. Others will but may require certain memory space and processor speeds. You should check your games and make sure your computer meets the games requirements first. Just because the game says windows98 compatible does not mean the game will run on every windows 98 system.

when u turn on the computer start pressing F12 (i think it was that) now u will access this option panel, search for SAFE MODE press that, u will enter windows 98 in safe mode, u should be able to see the icons now.
u should install WinXp, if u can get a version of WinXp in a burnt cd rom from a friend that would be great cuz i dont think ur gonna want to spend money on that :P

I have a windows 98 that as also given to me.

I've tried to download things, but the computer just won't have it.

My advice, either buy an update or a new computer.

98s are obsolite and most of the games they make now won't work on them.

Good luck. And if you find soemthing that works, let me know! :)

Before install new game, please check minimum requirement of computer hardware and software requirement.

For resolved your problem,
- power of your pc

- quickly press F8
- then select safe mode

after that change your screen resolution to minimum set.

check the hard disk, and if it is ok, you will most likely have to reformat it and reinstall windows 98, if you dont have a copy, get one from bitlord and as long as you get the same version your serial number should work ok
