My truck is a '89 Chevy Silverado. The battery is good, but when I turn the ignition, the starter clicks, but the truck doesn't start. When I try again, it clicks repetedly like a machine gun. What is wrong with it?

the alternator may be bad, so therefore driving around with a bad alternator could have drained the battery, even though it may have some power left it might not be able to start now b/c it wasn't recharged. or your starter could be bad. if you live close to an auto zone they could check your alternator for free, then you wont have to buy one if not needed.

Sounds like your starter solenoid is bad, but it could also be your starter. Best bet is to take it in, but NOT to the dealer. They'll charge you top dollar and do crappy work. Try to find a local mom-and-pop mechanic with a good reputatiton. Many of them give free estimates, or they'll charge you a fee that is applied to the cost of repairs if you have them do the work, so you don't lose money on the deal.

Clean your battery cables.
Fully charge the battery
The rapid clicking is the starter due to low voltage. If the battery is over 5 years old may be time to replace.
Have the battery & charging system load tested.
