I feel that letter writing ought to continue, even in the form of e-mails. Cutting out the salutary and the "sincerely" are examples of demeaning the importance of the letter. Other than placing the address and date on an e-mail, the author could still display tradition and respect toward the recipient.

I like to write letters. Sometimes, I write letters and I can't write fast enough because my mind goes faster than I can write. I write alot on e-mail because it goes out faster. It takes no time to send. Letters sent through the mail takes longer but I think it is worth it.

It's a wonderful thing to engage in. The trouble with me is that I embark on such long letters that I don't always finish them. I set them aside, mid way, get busy with other things and then, when I later discover them, they seem to have been overtaken by events. But then I enjoy reading them myself! I love receiving letters from other people and like to feel that my letters give them as much pleasure as theirs do me.

I think it's useful, but most people would rather talk on the phone or email.
