They say between 16-20 weeks is good to tell but more towards 20 weeks is better to tell. I got both mine at 18 1/2 weeks and found out. If you wait 3-4 more weeks you will really be able to see the gender if the baby is in right position and not too big.
Edit: to try to get the baby to move is normal. I always drank a can of pop and ate a snickers bar so the sugar will move the baby and have more chance of seeing the gender. My friend only had a lil bit of water and her baby was "sleeping" most of the time.

The baby starts to develop the M/F organs at 10 weeks.
However Ultrasounds are only able to see these at about 16weeks +.
So you have a possibility of seeing (depending on how cooperative your baby is)
Most doctors try to make you wait for a ultrasound till about the 20th week (its easier to tell after 18ish weeks or so)
Also it depends on the ultrasound type. A regular ultrasound is normal in all pregnancy's, however if you get a level 2 ultrasound, or a Vaginal ultrasound, they are much more likely to be able to tell you earlier and with more certainty what sex your baby is...
Good luck and congratulations!

Depends on if the baby is in the right mood to show you ;) My ultrasound was at 17 weeks 2 days, and he showed us right away! With my first son, ultrasound was at 20 weeks 1 day... he wouldn't move those little legs, the doc GUESSED it was a boy, and was right!
Good luck ;)

It's possible but I think they have you wait until 18-20 weeks so that there is a greater chance that you will be able to see the baby's gender.
Good luck and congrats on your baby!

I think they can get an idea from 16 weeks on, but to be sure you could always wait till your next appointment. Someone told my SIL to drink a coke before she went to see the sex of her baby, so that it wouldn't just lie there. Big mistake. It was moving around so much, and kicking its little legs like crazy so the doc couldn't see anything real good. He guessed a boy, but wasn't positive.

My doctor wouldnt let me find out until 20 weeks just so they could be sure (well as sure as they can be) It sucks cause you want to know so bad. All doctors are different though, I have a friend who plans to find out at 17 weeks also. Good luck!!

Slightly possible but probably too early. One can still look like the other at this stage. Wait until about 20 weeks.
(I can't believe the other poster. Shock the baby so it opens it's legs? Eat a bunch of sugar to "wake the baby up"? How cruel and stupid.)
