Did you have a side effect by using the drug? My last blood test showed that mine was 295! I've never had it that high before. I think, along with the eating out so much, it is also stress-related.

Thanks Sage_Seeker - Not eating with my mom should help a lot. I am off the red meat after getting that report.

I had routine blood work done recently & both my good & bad cholesterol were well below what is considered the norm. I watch what I eat but I really believe it's all in the genes. Years ago, when I was a bit sloppy when it came to eating, my numbers were still low. Again, it's in the genes. Two of my sons had high cholesterol & have to watch it carefully but so did my their father, my ex, & coronary artery disease runs in that side of the family.

I all so was taking Lipitor for cholesterol, but then my doctor switched me to Caduet. A combination Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure medication, for several years. I have not experienced any more than normal short term memory loss. My long term memory is just find. Now because of financial and no medical I can not afford to take that medication. and still see no change. I have also heard on the news within the last month or so that the cholesterol medications do not give appreciably any major cholesterol lowering capabilities to warrant the taking of these drugs. And it is not a life or death situation. They feel it is just a ruse by the pharmaceutical company's to push these drugs on people in order to make themselves more money. Diet and exercise will do the same thing and better. And you can keep the money in your pocketbook.

I was put on Cozaar about a month or so ago. I haven't felt
well since I've been on them actually. I've felt like I've had a
prolonged flu. My tests show I have been in a state of Con-
gestive Heart Failure tho. And these flu symptoms can't be
related unless they are side affects I'm not aware of. I don't
know if Cozaar is a statin or not. Oatmeal is a good source
to combat the cholesterol. Also broccoli as well.

Mine was 225 when I went to the dr a couple yrs ago. He put me on Lipitor, but I got violently ill-we thought I was having a stroke. Dr. didn't even try to change my diet, although I think that helps. My mom has it, it's hereditary as well as other factors. I only took the Lipitor about a week and when I went back 6 wks later it was 129, so I don't know if the 1st tests were right or not. I've also read medical reports about it being higher in cold weather. I'm not on any prescription meds right now, we have no insurance. I take homeopathic or 'natural' remedies for some other health issues. Hope your meds work for you and the numbers come down. Oatmeal is good to eat for this.

I take lovistatin.. a generic. It has my cholesterol under control very well. There is a danger when taking the statins.....do not take high doses of Vit. B, especially niacin! It can cause irreversable damage to nerves! AND, this stuff is toxic to the liver, so you should have regular liver function tests done to make sure you are within the normal ranges expected. Love and peace, Goldwing.

I am 38, so I don't exactly fit into your age categories, but I am also taking generic Zocor and my cholesterol is completely under control. I wish I could say that I've also made dietary changes, but I unfortunately continue to eat the way I've always done.

My cholesterol dropped about 40 points when I ate almost nothing but salads for a month, and exercised like crazy. My doctor couldn't believe it.

I was more like 400 and have been borderline or more since I was 29 years old. Finally got the Crestor and I was told it was normal for the first time in my adult life.

I tried the others , like zocor and I had horrible leg and chest pains.

My high Ch was genetic I am sure of it!

My cholesterol was low enough not to register on the machine a few years ago. The nurse asked if the machine was broken and tried it on another one...same result.
