Some people view it as a cult, and so they're afraid that he'll force us all to drink the purple Kool-Aid.
In general, though, I think Romney's been very honest about what he would do as president. Some people don't like it and so people do. In either case, I think that there's plenty of better things to base our decision on than his religion.

I have been a Mormon all of my life. While many of our religious beliefs are undeniably different than others (people seem fixated on the "holy underwear" thing - come on, people! it's not a big thing), in so many ways, Mormons are very similar in their beliefs to any other Christian denomination. If they took the time to look at the substance of our beliefs, I think that most Christians would find much in common with their own beliefs.
That being said, I am quite opposed to Romney. In my view, he represents yet more increases to the size and scope of government and a continuation of policies that I believe have failed or that threaten personal liberties.

Would any of the beliefs of the Mormon philosophy prevent a Mormon president from fulfilling his/her duties?
That is the big question. Other than that, as long as the president keeps his/her religion to themselves and out of the decision making then it should work.

Funny...so many Mormon-haters, and not a single good answer to your question.
We have had presidents from 11 different denominations (including a Jehovah's witness) and I can't say that any one of them did great things or terrible things BECAUSE of their religion.
People who don't like Mormons are quick to throw this out, but they can't back it up with anything that makes sense.

I have nothing against the Mormon Faith. In fact, I have many Mormon friends that are quite close to me. However, I believe that since the majority of out population is NOT Mormon, it would be unwise to have a Mormon leader.

In general? Or Romney? I'm fine with a Mormon president. Lord knows they can raise funds.

I do not care that Baseball Mitt Romney is a mormon because from judging from what I hear him say he is not trying to impose his religon onto me. I do not agree with many of his policies and views but I do not care that he is a mormon. I hate when people keep bringing up a person's religon as a way to divert votes away from that candidate. There is enough fuel to turn voters off a candidate religon is not needed to help that.

I wouldn't mind an LDS president (obviously) just not Brother Romney. I tend to vote for candidates who don't straddle fences.
The only way Bro. Romney would get my vote is if he ran against the former First Lady.

i dont really have a problem with it. however i saw my mother doing a bible study today dealing with the ways in which the mormon doctine contradicts the christian bible. i dont know why it should matter what religion a leader ascribes himself as but it seems as though it still does. i dont think he has a chance.

Nothing really... as long as the president did not allow his religious views to guide the country.
