lot. Would I be better off for the same price getting a new cheaper model, or a used really nice one?

Who gets rid of a used really nice grill? Every used grill I have ever seen for sale or for free is pretty much a POS.

I am on my second grill since buying my house 5.5 years ago. The first grill cost $199. I replaced the burners twice and when it same time to do it the third time I bought a new grill. The upper grates were shot too.

The second grill cost $399. I have had it for 2.5 years. I haven't replaced anything yet. I bought a stainless steel one with marine brass burners. They should never need to be replaced. The electronic start is starting to work intermittently and the tube that connects the burners will need to be replaced soon - it isn't brass. But otherwise it is in good condition and should last another 5 years at this rate.

It's like everything else in life. You get what you pay for. Cheap grills cost more in the long run, both in aggravation and actual $$.

If you grill a lot it's worth spending more on a good grill.

I bought a small grill from Lowe's. It is only around 30,000 BTU but it only cost me $80. It has lasted me two summers now and is still in pretty good shape. I think the most important thing is keeping it in a shed or garage where it is not always exposed to the weather. Leaving it outside and using a grill cover is not good enough.

If it is a gas grill, take out the guts for the gas grill and use it for a charcoal grill, clean the grids with ammonia, throw them in a plastic bag with ammonia and leave them set in the sun for awhile take out and wash off with soapy water and rinse, re-paint the outside of the grill with heat resistant paint, other wise if you are going to buy a new one this is the time of year to do so as they mark them down.

Normally the two most important things that need to change on a grill are the burner and grids

If the main body is still good I would check the price of replacement parts versus the other options. I wouldnt go used you are dealing with one now.

As long as the bottom and top haven't rusted through, I'd just replace the burner and stuff.
