I am a Compliance Officer and I was asking my boss some questions which sounded pretty stupid to her I'm sure, not to mention I just started, and I am still learing too ... what should I do?

Is this person new to managing people? It sure sounds it!! Tell her to coach you instead, that means answering questions by leading to the answer.

I do not micro manage my staff either, but no question is considered stupid. Instead I help them to find the answer. For instance by asking what made you ask this question and what have you done to find the answer? Then i point them in the right direction.

Being a manager means you have to train and coach your staff and any staff member is different and needs to be approached differently.

Stop asking questions and act like you know what you are doing. Have good systems in place and know why you do things the way you do. Just in case she questions what you are doing. Take the lead and do things as if you are the boss. Evidently she doesn't know how she wants things done/hired you to work on your own/is too busy to train you.

what she means is that she isn't going to be looking over your shoulder and wants you to think the questions through and arrive at your own answers without her having to make the decisions for you. You can talk to other workers there perhaps or if you are the only one, think the question through and come up with your best answer and you should be okay. Remember that you wouldn't have gotten the job if someone somewhere didn't think you could do it. so that should help you have confidence in the decisions you make.

You are to be a self starter who does the best job of what you were hired to do. Your boss does not intend to walk you through your day, that's all.
