It is not my intention to cast Senator Clinton in the role of Honest Abe, but can we hear about policy and platform rather than personality? The way the Bush League is carrying on about unimportant personal traits makes me wonder why they cannot attack her ideas. Are they that good?

I have not asked the question, "Would modern Republicans have been acceptable to Lincoln?" That would be another debate, and I think the answer would be no.

Probably not. In the Nixon-Kennedy debates, those who heard the debates on the radio largely gave a win to Nixon; those who watched on TV gave the win to Kennedy. Since then, both parties have preferred their candidates to be acceptable to TV viewers, especially since, as you point out, political debate has largely degenerated into name-calling (and I'd point out that there are no guiltless parties there).

Just some information for those posters above me...

Lincoln was a moderate liberal. If you study American History, you will learn that during his time the Republican party was liberal and the Democratic party was conservative.

That being said, there's no way of knowing what Lincoln's ideals would be were he alive today or if any party would accept him as a leader. The situations are just far too different to reasonably compare.

My all time favorite Republican. Not because of his policies, but because he did the right thing because it was the right thing to do. I think Lincoln would like this republican and I think Mr. Lincoln and I would have very much in common. I too have a wrinkled face, bad voice, goofy laugh, and do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. Why is it that Hillary wants to do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons. Getting elected to the position of President should be about what is in the best interest of the United States, the majority, not minority, we rule by majority. Lincoln's job was to hold the Union together, and no matter how he felt personally about slavery, states rights, and the economy, he never give up on the Union, and it was spared because of his resolve.

No...i'm valuable Lincoln became smarter than any cutting-edge-day Conservative who would not comprehend that celebration association would not equivalent Ideology. such as you pronounced, Lincoln became a creative liberal, would not rely that the celebration of creative liberals for the time of that component became the Republican celebration. So i'm valuable he knows that cutting-edge-day Democrats are the comparable in ideology as latter day Republicans have been...Lincoln is proud and resting properly, oh ok, he became turning interior the grave from 2000-2008 while the facists have been attempting to destroy united states of america, yet he became no longer on my own, all the founding fathers have been handing over their graves besides.

Lord have mercy. Bubba is ugly and y'all voted him in? Jimmy Carter? Nixon? JFK days are over. As for Lincoln. He orchestrated peace. Human rights! Even Julia Roberts found Lyle Lovett handsome?

And since when has the Bush bashing stopped coming out of the junior Senator of New York. (when she is present, mostly absent for voting) ??? The Republican machine she bellows yet it has always been the idea that the Clinton machine is more or less the train wrecker here.

Politics as usual. NO change, experience in fighting dirty and she knows exactly how. So expect others will chuck dirt back in that face. Thank you.

Would Lincoln have been acceptable by either party? I believe that if Lincoln was president to-day he would be treated just like the liberals treat President Bush.

Without getting into how well Lincoln would fare today, let me just say that Hillary's policies are so out in left field that even Democrats know it.

I'm waiting for honest Democrats to start asking what is up with the media.

Abe was honest so he wouldn't have been accepted by liberals.

Proof:

-Ted kennedy lying about killing his secretary in the car
-hillary and the "missing" files
-I did not have sexual relations with that woman
-john kerry lying about atrocities in viet nam
-Michael moore saying cuba is better than the u.s.
-bill maher saying the terrorists of 9/11 were "courageous"

What? It seems to me you've just described the behavior of liberals towards Bush over the past 6+ years.
