Americans (most Americans) are free. A free people can speak their mind on politics, bear arms, and own property.
Take any one of the above away, and you have a people who are less free.
Carrying guns around is mostly good (probably 90% good, 10% bad). While gun crimes make the national news, what doesn't make the news is the FBI's estimate that lawful gun owners use a firearm in self-defense 400,000 or more times per year, and in less than 6% of those incidents is a shot ever fired.
Arguably, firearms prevent much more unlawful violence than they bring about.
The answer to the gun control is not to restrict carrying a firearm, but to group firearms into two distinct classes:
Legal firearms
Illegal firearms (maybe machine guns, grenade launchers, etc)
And then allow the states to decide what fits into each class.
However, in NO case should a state or government bar a citizen from carrying a Legal firearm (although they do in practice, even in the U.S.).

There is gun control. It varies by state as well as the uniform federal regulations. If you live in a free state, like New Hampshire, the laws are less strict. However, drive twenty minutes south to the People's Republic of Massachusetts and it's like Nazi Germany. If you look at it on a map, all the main areas where minorities populate have stricter gun laws then where it's predominately white. The reason for this is simple, people who are against guns see only their violent capabilities, and automatically blame minoroties for crime. Also, many people who own guns use them for sustainence. In my time working in Louisiana, I met hundreds of people who depended on deer and squirrell hunting to get by and feed thier families. The rich, racist people who hate guns don't see that though...

The Second Amendment of our Constitution gives us the right to bear arms. However, most places require that you have a permit to carry a gun and a license to own a gun. Not only that, but in some places there is a waiting period in which a background check is done on a prospective gun buyer. I think these laws are reasonable, but many others disagree.

As many here have already stated, The right to "Keep and bear arms" is guaranteed by Our second amendment. It was placed as Our second amendment because it is such an important one....The first being the right to free speech & Freedom of the press......But without the Second, to defend the First, you haven't got much of a chance.
And, while we're at it......
"Gun Control", isn't about about clearing up crime, or criminals.....It's about "Control!".....To think otherwise is foolish at best, and Dangerous at worst.
For only the law-abiding people will follow laws.
Criminals, by definition, DO NOT follow laws.
Therefore....
If one could somehow, magically, pass a world wide gun control law...banning guns from the world.......
Guess what?!?
The Criminals would still have them....and they would still do bad things with them.....and they would use the money that they made from them to do more of the same.....
Don't believe me?......Take a look at the Drug cartells....
Now, take a good look at the world leaders who want to -or- already have disarmed their people.
Now tell me that the people there are still in control of their government........Sure they are!......
Now tell me I'm wrong......

People like their guns for hunting and for feeling safe (comfort in knowing - or at least thinking - they can protect themselves from being robbed or assaulted).
There will never be a "no guns" or gun control law in the US. There are simply too many guns out there. Even if it became illegal, there would always be guns out on the streets and in people's homes. There are simply too many out there to ever become a gun-free nation.

The reason Americans have little to no gun control is because that is the way our founding fathers intended it to be. We are to be a well armed citizen in order that we might be able to protect ourselves or change the government in the event they get out of control... What do you think?
I feel safe be a gun owner and carrier.

So why have gun control? Then only criminals will carry guns. There is a town in Georgia that passed a law which requires all residents to carry guns. Guess what, crime went to almost 0. So, maybe just the threat of everyone having guns is enough.

Well, the US does have some gun control, but yes, citizens can own guns unless they have that right taken away from them.
It's just about impossible for a government to impose its will against an armed populace without their tacit consent.

America is Free...blah blah blah...
Most sensible countries don't have gun ownership like the usa, we all know what happens when a disgruntled american kid gets hold of one, he just goes and kills his class mates.
Americans still like to think that this freedom is sooo good for them. A lot of countries get by perfectly without access to guns, thats why we in other countries have police officers who do the shooting for us. Occassionally we might get a nutter who kills a few people cause they are upset, but the usa is a country full of nutcases who think arming a child is a perfectly good thing to do... they call it a right or something equally outrageous.
GW Bush is the biggest cowboy, riding his horse/country around killing indiscriminately, its what americans understand.
Live by the gun, die by the gun.

Taking away our guns would be like trying to take away a Palestinians rocks. Weapons can be made of anything.
Besides, guns don't kill people, the pharmaceutical companies do $$$$(with the blessings of the FDA)$$$$
