-shoot the person and go to jail.
-or simply... die.
Do you agree it is better to be victim than a tormentor?
Think about this for a while... After all, if one day you have the misfortune of coming across this situation (I hope you won't), you very probably won't have enough time to think, and you don't know if you will later regret your decision or not...

Sorry, but shooting someone in self-defense is often just a MITIGATING FACTOR...
Few people actually get away with it even if they claim this in court... (But perhaps in countries, such as the United States, where guns are easily available, including to teenagers and children, things are a little different...)
Just think that almost killers could claim that in court, then...
Also, very probably not everybody would have the cold blood to pull the trigger IN TIME... (They wanted, but they couldn't...)
As for me, after thinking for a while, I know I would prefer to go to jail, than to be tortured to death...

By the way, let me tell you an interesting TRUE story that happened in my country (Portugal).
A woman shot her violent brother-in-law dead, when he was going to kill her sister and her husband.
Even that this was in self-defense, SHE FOR SURE WAS ARRESTED.
And you know the rest?
She didn't know her sister was having an affair WITH HER HUSBAND.
So, she went to jail, her brother-in-law was dead... AND HER HUSBAND AND SISTER .SHACKED UP TOGETHER while she was jail... (she was still in jail when this was reported... and they didn't say how many years in prison she was sentenced to...)
So, how would you take that?
(The United States is a paradise if you are free to shoot any people you want and that you can't be charged with any crimes, as long as you claim 'oh, I shot in self-defense'...
No wonder, that safety in that country is such a questionable matter...)

when u say attack me; with what?
do they have a gun or a fist or a hose or
what?
I can out talk any attacker. I am skilled
in wresting and killing movements. I don't need either. IF someone is following me, i change
direction. I have nothing on me they want.
if they come to me when I am near my car,
I re-enter my car and drive away.
if they are crazy, I hide.
I do not go near bars, so I solve that problem.
I do not hang around drunks, druggies
or verbally antaganostic people.
let others pursue me. I will ask why?
in 50 yrs, no one has ever bothered to.
I can start to run....why would they expend the energy?
if they have a gun, they would want to rob me.
I carry no cash. I am careful to park
in areas with no people around and not
at night.
I am watchful.
my friends are not.

You know that simply drawing a gun on someone who is attacking you without a gun should be enough to stop that person dead in his tracks. If the person does not stop, then it's a matter of survival and self defense. You will not go to jail for acting in self defense if you are legally carrying a gun.
On the other hand i don't carry a gun (I don't recommend for others to carry a gun either) so most likely I would parish under the consequence of attack. Yes, this kind of stuff does happen, but in most cases (not all), the victim creates a victimizing situation for him/herself. Most of these situations can be entirely avoided, even in some of the worst environments. Just the idea of the fact that people are carrying a gun creates the unnecessary environment in which you could potentially harm or be harmed.
The answer to your question is however no... there is never a reason to be a victim, under no circumstance. Even if it's a matter of your job, relationship, or life and death. We are all here to make an impact and no one should suffer victimization for the cause of another's insanity because we are all equal citizens of this earth. This is the basic survival instinct which we should act on.

Well, it's not much of dilemna - first of all, if you are being attacked and you shoot - it is self-defense. However, if he had a gun and I could grab it, I don't think I would. I would let him rob me or rape me without a struggle, because people like that are after the power our fear gives them. I wouldn't give him the satisfaction.
If I died, then I look at it this way. The way the world is today - a little peace and quiet wouldn't be that bad. Before I died though, I'd make sure I made peace with my maker and meant every word of it.
I'm glad you asked this question, because we don't often think about what might happen when faced with a life or death situation.

Firstly, if it can be proven you shot the attacker in self defense then there is nothing to worry about usually.
I'd most likely shoot the guy in the knees, that will take anyone down and not kill them. I'm sure they wouldn't come after you after you did that.
Although I don't get your question: Victim or Tormentor? Who wants to be the victim, but who truly doesn't want to torment?

You probably would not go to jail if you shot someone who was attacking you, because that is considered self-defense. This isn't a very well thought out question.

Well, thats a good question. But I dont think I would be sent to jail for killing the guy, b/c would'nt it be considered self-defense? So in that case, i would do option #1--without the jail part...

If someone was going to attack me, I would shoot them. In 99% of cases like that, you would never be charged in an act of self-defense. Yes, you would have to live with the fact that you killed someone, but I would be fine with that.

I'll probably shoot him in the leg or anywhere below the waist that would slow him down. But if he's too close aready and my I will die if I don't, I will kill him. I don't think that I would go to jail because that's self defense.

Depends on how they're going to attack me, I guess.
If I for some reason had a gun in my hand, and they were rushing me, I would think they were doing so because they were worried I would hurt somebody.
If they were attacking me and THEN I had the gun in my hand, I'd like to know where I got such a hellish device, but I think I'd try pistol-whipping them first. As long as you can prove self-defense.
Too many variables.
