This guy above me is a moron. Everything he told you is wrong. You can NOT do what you are asking. It is IMPOSSIBLE without running a new line to power the dryer.

You haven't given me enough information to tell for sure what is happening. Most electric dryers are 220 as the other answer says, some are switchable from 220 to 110 (normal outlet) but not many. But I need to know what kind of cord your dryer has, and what kind of outlet you have available in the laundry.

One of your answers is DANGEROUSLY WRONG, yes you can physically change the plug, but if you do, reguardless of which you have or to which you change it, you can CAUSE A FIRE, and definately destroy the dryer, something your land lord won't like. If you don't have a 220 outlet, and the dryer is 220 (it has that different shaped plug), perhaps the previous dryer was gas, is there a gas line on the wall in the wash/dry space? This kind of dryer does run on 110, because the heat comes from the burning gas and all the electric has to do is operate the fan and tumble the bin.

Anyway, good luck and BE CAREFUL!!!!

No. Short answer is the dryer requires a 240 volt 30 amp circuit. A normal outlet has half that at 120 volt and 15 or 20 amp. You will need a new circuit for the dryer. Sorry.

The plug that is attached to the dryer is specifically designed for 220 volts. You cannot use the dryer with a 110 volt supplied outlet.

If you have a 220v outlet with a different blade orientation then, yes, you can change the dryer plug to match provided the circuit can handle the load. Typically 30-50 amps service.

If I understand the question right, you want to run a 220 volt clothes dryer on a standard grounded 110 volt circuit.

The price of your "free" dryer includes running a 220 circut from the fuse panel/breaker box and installing the correct outlet. From your question, I think you need an estimate from a qualified electrician.

You might be better off to buy a gas dryer, if your laundry area is set up for that; one 110 volt outlet, and a gas supply line.

Simply put "no" you cant one is a 120 volt plug and the dryer is 240 volts, never try to interchange plugs there made that way for a purpose. You need a dryer outlet tell your landlord to call an electrician.

NO.......the dryer is 220 amps. The wire is too thick and in case of an overload you'll burn your house down cause the circuit breaker will not trip.

Call an electrician

I agree with HEX, the guy above him has not the slightist idea what he's talking about. Calling him a moron is a compliment

no.
the dryer outlet is rated at 30a while the regular outlet is rated at 20a. in using regular outlet for the dryer, after a while the oulet will burnt out.

it may be against the rule, but you could wired the dryer direct without the oulet box.

yes it is you will need a new wall plug to dryer cord with the new style plug, purchase a new wall outlet plug, TURN OFF THE POWER at the breaker box. wire the new plug the same way the old plug was wired.
good luck
