everyone wants to rule the world, dont people see we have those liberties so no tyrant can take control of us? you cant sidestep the bill of rights to spy on people because they might be terrorists, that makes us lose the "war" already, we have changed our way of life.

people don't realize they even have thses liberties you speak of, they think it doesnt hurt to be searched before getting on a plane, or having to verify who you are when getting a license or passport or whatever, the trouble is many violations of our rights are unseen, we know wiretapping mail reading etc are happening but we don't think they are reading our mail or listening to our conversations on the phone.

we don't see it directly or feel it until they find something they don't like or can use against you because they need an excuse to persecute lyou because of your race, religion or political position.

It is kind of a paradox actually, we need security to protect our freedoms but we are losing those freedoms that the security was supposed to be protecting. what makes it really sad, wicked whatever you call it, is to make up security theats that don't truly exsit because you desire to take those liberties away that your sworn to uphold

so it bids the question, what freedoms is the loss of freedoms supposed to be protecting?.My guess is their freedom to enslave you.

Will you also fight for my right to my money? How about my right to choose and control my own retirement? How about my right to choose my own health insurance?

All of the same people that are whining about listening to phone calls are also the ones begging the government to steal our rights and freedoms in more material ways. If the government listens to my phone call, I am not hurt in any way. If the government steals my money to pay for my neighbor's retirement or health care, then I am hurt a great deal.

Unless you demand the government end Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, prescription drugs, and every other entitlement, your supposed outrage over stolen liberty is hollow hypocrisy. Either you believe in freedom, or you don't.

We give up liberties for security all the time. It's a matter of balance.

Prisons are an example. We give up the liberty of never being imprisoned for the security of being less likely to be murdered.

Driver's licenses are another example. We give up the liberty to drive whenever we want for the security of being less likely to be killed by a crappy driver.

Fear, trust in government, party lines, the thought that humans may stop acting like humans if controlled, etc...

You have such a great point!

Isn't it cleaver of the administration to use scare tactics and curtailment of our liberties to keep us "safe"?

What better way to control the population and manipulate their way into power - and to keep it.
