Flower died by a fatal bite to the head from a cobra snake. The group had been out foraging when they spotted the Zappa's (I believe it was the Zappa's) on their turf. Flower led the group into battle and the Zappa's retreated, leaving behind one of their young pups, Axle. Mitch found Axle and brought him to Flower. Flower basically adopted Axle, which is very uncommon for a meerkat to do, especially when she has new born pups of her own back at the burrow. The Whiskers head back home, and along the way they have to carry Axle. They come across and cobra and mob it. The cobra retreats into the Whisker's burrow, which is where the babysitters and new pups are. The groups only chance at saving the pups is to kill the snake. Flower leads the way into the burrow and all we find out is that she got bit on the head. She suffers for a few hours, her head completely swollen...then she's gone. Her legacy does live on, the pups are ok

I too cried. I still get teary eyed when I read about her. A LOT of folks loved Flower and the other Meerkats like Mozart, Shakespeare, and even Carlos. I cried for all of them!! It is heartbreaking, but I have to admit Flower was a tough one. 7 years of surviving the harsh and unforgiving Kalahari desert IS an achievement for a little bitty like Flower. They are tough. It is admirable though what she did for Axle. It was also very brave of her to defend her pups in such a manner that she gave her own life!! Very great deeds before she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Rest in Peace Queen Flower. The Kalahari will never be the same without you. I will always remember her for the beautiful and feisty Meerkat matriarch she was, instead of what happened to her in her last moments after the snake bite.

they DID run a little thing in this weeks TV GUIDE about Flower and said that YES she is dead and someone had written in wondering why the camera or crew didn't try to SAVE the Meerkat from her death since Flower was one of the "cats" who had a collar----but they are SUPPOSED to be showing how these animals ACTUALLY act in nature and therefore would NOT have been able to intervein to save flower because in the "real world" a camera and crew would not BE there.....

Poor Flower what a brave little critter. I did weep for her myself. She has gone to the African rainbow bridge. I feel bad because she was in such pain.

I saw it Friday, and will admit I got teary eyed.

It is because they tell the story in such a way that we "humanize" them, like they are our pets.

Flower was really something, though.

LIFE IS TOUGH AND THEN YOU DIE AND IF YOU'VE MADE THE PROPER PROVISIONS HERE ON EARTH YOU GO TO HEAVEN. MAYBE GOD WILL RESURRECT FLOWER JUST FOR YOU AND MY WIFE SHE CRIED TOO.
