It is because he is a Conservative. And he is well respected among all conservatives, and most Americans. He is the ideal man from America. And he doesn't walk the tight rope of that the NAACP demands of blacks. It makes the Dems and Lib. mad that he does not "cow tie" to their imagine of a successful African American today.
I think he is a wonderful MAN full of character and above all he is HONORABLE.

I think the endless cycle of poverty, helplessness and victimhood that the liberal party has created for the black man is a crying shame. It is so upsetting to me that every time I meet or hear of a black man or woman that is a conservative, it puts a huge smile on my face to know that there is hope for their race. What liberals have done to them over the past 50 years is unforgivable in my opinion.

Is because he is a black Republican. Liberals don't know what to say to, or do with a man such as he. Intelligent, forthright, has energy, and doesn't agree with Liberalism.
Justice Thomas was a VERY BIG surprise in his generation to Liberals.
Remember that there are fewer black Conservatives, than Liberal black folks.
Thanks Justice Thomas, and ALL Conservatives who are like him, for suprising the blankety blank blank out of OUR enemies, the LIBS!
LOL, God Bless Ya!

I have seen this done to black friends of mine on a personal level. I have a friend who is black and married to a white jewish guy and the other black women at work will not talk to her and they talk behind her back, they say she doesn't "act black" and "thinks she's better than them". The woman in question acts like a normal nice woman and is not stuck up at all, yet they shun her.
I think it's even worse at the political level, and sadly I think it's one of the reasons Colin Powell did not run.
I think pidgeon holing people into one way of thought and one party is completely against everything they are trying to overcome in prejudice and bad for everybody.
Just my opinion. I'm an individualist and prefer the rights of the individual to be themselves freely.

I agree the self appointed people who speak for the African Americans hate to see any black person in a position of power because they are afraid that others might realize that they could get ahead by getting an education and hard work.

Thanks for answering your own question. But if you're sincerely looking for honest answers, here's my take --
Thomas was never a good judge (as the ABA rated him). He was nominated as a token black for the right, to make them feel better about how they have treated blacks the last hundred years. And as a political move, because it would be hard for the left to vote against him because he was black.
He sexually harassed Anita Hill, which would have gotten him fired in any workplace outside the civil service.
He has few opinions of his own, and seems to like riding Scalia's coattails because Scalia can at least explain his reasoning on an issue (no matter how stupid it is).
He's hated because he's a mediocre extremist.

Dude leftists HATE Black Conservatives. They are a sign that their decades of lies about their support of the Civil Rights movement are wearing off. They also hate successful Blacks who aren't entertainers or athletes, becuase their welfare slavery doesn't have control of the successful Black person.

I don't think this is the reason at all, mostly because it does not accurately reflect liberal beliefs. In addition, Justice Thomas is disliked, at least among many in the legal community, because he is a very poor Justice. I cannot think of a major opinion or dissent authored by him. Most of his written opinions simply parrot Scalia. His written opinions often show that he made his mind up prior to argument, as he discusses things no other justice seams to have seen or heard. Before his confirmation, he was not recognized by the ABA as well qualified, which is virtually unheard of for Supreme Court nominees. To top it off, he seems to have sexually harassed Anita Hill.

Justice Thomas isn't 'black enough' for the greater Dem party, and
you're exactly right in your estimation.
What the libs did to Thomas was a gross injustice.
Has Clarence been apologized to yet?
Didn't think so.

you should make a list of all 'black' people that the lefties don't support or have denounced in one fashion or another, then find the common link between them...
