I wouldn't think so but you should follow up with your doctor. I have talked to a lot of women whose doctor insisted on inserting the IUD during their menstrual cycle. This wasn't the case for me though. I was not on my cycle. But every doctor is different. Yours may require it and if they do I would ask them to explain why and find a different doctor if you don't agree.

When you talk to the doctor ask him/her this, only they can answer that question.

Since after depo it can take over a year to get your periods back, I'd wager that you can have an IUD before you get your cycle.

But, talk to the doctor.
