No, the Xbox 360 Elite does not have a HD-DVD player built in. You have to buy an attachment for about $200 to play HD-DVD's. The only difference in the Elite from the other Xbox's is a bigger harddrive, a different color, and a HDMI connection and that's it. Just in case you don't own a PS3, The PS3 has a built in Blu-Ray drive, flash memory card slots, built in WiFi, and a web browser for just $20 bucks more... Now that's a good deal and you don't have to purchase separate attachments for WiFi and for Blu-Ray.

To play games on an HDTV yes. However, to play HD DVD's you have to buy the HD DVD player that connects directly to your console via USB. It retails for $179.
