Recycling varies by state because some states have deposit / refunds and others don't .
Several guys just got large prison sentences for taking cans from other states to Michigan to get their recycling $$$ .
If you live in a state that has recycling , collect them for a portion of the refund then haul them in for the full . The difference should cover your fuel costs and time .
If you live in a state that does not have deposits ,
Google your state and metal recycling to find metals buyers .

Good Luck !

FYI - When I was young and needed extra cash ,
I would visit the parks late on Sunday .
Lots of people party at the parks and the bins were full of aluminum cans (free , did not have to pay someone else ) . I'd put them in heavy duffel bags then back over them with the vehicle to flatten a bunch at once .
Pretty sure people still party at the parks on weekends .
