You should avoid foods that are high in purines. Eating such foods can elevate the amount of uric acid in your system, and lead to a gout attack. Some foods to look out for are as follows:
1. Organ meats, like kidney and liver
2. Seafood like mussels, sardines, anchovies, mackerel, and herring.
3. Rich protein foods like pork roast, poultry, and roast beef.
4. Vegetables like asparagus, cauliflower, lentils, mushrooms, and spinach.
5. Whole grain breads and cereals, and oatmeal.
6. Restrict your alcohol consumption to one drink per day. Avoid it completely in the case of a gout attack.
Drink five or six glasses of water a day to flush out the uric acid in your body.
If you have a gout attack, take rice porridge with stir-fry or steamed vegetables like cabbage, zucchini, eggplants etc. Drinking a tea made out of stinging nettle and all kinds of berry juices will help your condition greatly.
It may interest you to know that for some gout sufferers, a bout of flu can also trigger a gout attack. Hope I have been of help.

Cut back on meat, as some think gout is related to high protein in the diet.

Lots of protein isn't good for gout, nor is sugar.

Soooo sorry for your pain-Look at this link and perhaps you will be free of it soon. Sounds like you need a good dose of vegetable soup for a couple of days? Nice that it's getting cooler and we can enjoy soups again!

Cherries are supposedly really good for keeping symptoms down and you should stay away from red meat and beer (or yeast - bread, etc.)
