I like Dream Theater and Graphite Symphony quite a bit, in terms of prog rock.

Hey there!
I'd consider amusement parks on fire as shoegaze, and also Ride, Slowdive or Moose, but I'm never really sure with those genre classifications.
Prog may be something like Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Rush, Ekseption, Emerson, Lake & Palmer or Electric Light Orchestra
or a few newer bands: Tool, King's X, Phish, Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree, Oceansize, The Gathering and maybe as well the mars volta (I don't know wether they're 'prog' or not, but I just like them alot) =D
Well yeah, mod is quite difficult, maybe something like the jam, secret affair or the who? And all those newer britpop bands (oasis, franz ferdinand, art brut, kaiser chiefs) that were influenced by all that? Hope I could help you a little.
Greetings!

I'd never heard the term "shoegazing" before, which led me here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shoegazing_musicians

Of those bands, I think I'm only familiar with the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Verve, and shoegazing predecessor Catherine Wheel.

Progressive rock can mean a whole lot of different things, and for me it goes all the way back to bands like Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Yes, Genesis, even bands like King Crimson. Rush could be thought of as a progressive power trio, and Pink Floyd would fit in there, too.
