So it's dried and hard? I don't know, it seems like anything you use that is strong enough would damage the carpet... How deep does it go? You can at least snip some carpet fibers to improve the appearance.

It won't be easy. If it is a large area, or the paint colour is very different to the carpet (like red paint, cream carpet - that's what I did!), you probably won't get it completely out. It will also depend on the quality of the paint, and what type of carpet it is. A wool carpet will probably absorb it, a nylon one would just sit on the surface.

You can try to remove the paint in two ways - working on the basis that if you don't try the carpet is ruined anyway!

The first is to apply neat washing up liquid to the paint, work it in, then sponge repeatedly with cold water. I've never tried this, but thinking logically it might work, it would probably be the better one to try if the carpet is absorbent.

The other thing you could try is to gently rub the carpet with sand paper. I think I saw someone try this on TV, but I'm not sure how well it works. I think this would be better if the carpet is not absorbent.

You've got nothing to lose by trying either though, I can't see any other way to get the stain out other than a new carpet!

Too late, tackled when wet you have a good chance of removal, if it has been allowed to dry little chance, you may be able to pick bits of then try to soften with a detergent solution, but check for colour fastness first.
