I was just wondering if anyone finds that the revalation of so many items contain unsafe levels of lead are items coming from China is suspicious and comes at a time when the American economy is in a slump. The wording in the media is what concerns me.It MAY, or POSSIBLY or simarly vague statements which raise parents concerns and fears (and rightly so). What an easy way to encourage consumers to buy American by fear mongering.I checked on the Mayo clinic site and it seems that a person would have to be exposed to the product for a sustained period of time. The doctor on the site that the toys did not present any immediate danger,There was no mention of older toys manufactured by Fisher-Price or Mattel or a recall of old toys.Wouldn't the Chinese manufacturers be using the same or similar paint finishes?

I am not saying as a parent and grandparent that we should ignore such warnings.I read one article that said the pencils that were recalled we safe as long as they were used for writing and not chewed on.Are Mattel and FisherPrice being used as sacrificial lambs? I truly didn't know the above companies manufactured their toys in China. My children played with their toys so when did they become so dangerous?

There are a lot of toys manufactured in China, why was only Mattel (Fisher-Price ) singled out? Have other companies done testing on their products?

mattel certainly is not a sacrificial lamb because there was always a standard concerning lead paint and simple controls could have prevented these recalls instead of allowing these these toys to arrive into our country unchecked.

i do agree however that it is odd that there were no older toys recalled. they would have been using the same paint for an extended period of time, unless they just recently switched to a lead based paint. but why would they do that?

Ii sent mattel an e-mail asking about the older toys because my children have toys made by mattel at home, but i received no answer and yes i will certainly no be buying mattel again because it could have been easily prevented.

If you're concerned that the Chinese are surreptitiously working to poison the youth of America, don't be. Why take such a roundabout approach against their enemies when nothing more complicated than a check to Bill Clinton bought them the advanced missile technology they couldn't come up with on their own. A few more bucks if Hillary is elected and they'll have two or three party members in her cabinet! (But then, Hillarys cabinet would have to take a sharp turn to the right to accomodate the Red Chinese into such a radically leftist administration.)

i think that the media has a way of making things get blown way out of proportion. It defitely could be of an orchistrated plan to control the economy. Terms that are subjective like could may or should are left to interpretation.
The same i could say in regards to the bird flu virus found recently in Alberta. They stated that it would not have an effect on humans, yet they killed 40,000 chickens.......
What does that tell you..
In regards to these products. there are numberous things in our day to day lives that if not utilized for the purpose intended can create harm for people. And they just don't have to be from China

Food for thought...I wouldn't put it passed this Administration to try something like that to boost the economy.
