Nope not unless you had a signed contract. In most states you can be fired at anytime for any reason unless you have a contract in writting.

I doubt they would do this without knowing they can get away with it. However, they might be banking on your not making an issue.
Call your new job, tell them what happened and ask if you can start a week or two early.
Since they 'fired' you without any *real* cause, you might be eligible to receive Unemployment Benefits. Go ahead and make a claim. They will likely contest this, but it is worth a try.
If you really want, it might be worth a call to an attorney or the Workforce or Labor office in your state to make sure they didn't violate any laws. It might amount to nothing, but what else are you going to do over the next two weeks?

Depending on your state labor laws, two weeks notices are given as a courtesy and are not mandatory. It's sort of like leaving without "burning the bridge". Employers can choose to accept your two weeks notice or not (they are not obligated to). You now have a choice to either contact your new employer to see if you can begin work sooner or you will just have to wait for the set starting date and will be out two weeks pay.

It depends on employer laws. Some states they can fire you at any time for any reason. But in your case it sounds illegal. It would mean they were firing you, not that you were quitting. Maybe try to find the labor laws in your state.

Unless you have a severance pay clause in your contract, you're out of luck. However, if they held back your first week's pay, or first 2 week's pay, that is owed to you.
