they dont NEED to be sharpened. the child will not really know the difference.

however, they SHOULD be sharpened because it will allow the blades to slide on the ice easier, allowing the child to learn easier.

If the skates are brand new (right out of the box), then most likely. Unless you ordered them pre-sharpened, there won't likely be any hollow on the skate and the little guy won't be able to stand. As for the hollow depth, that usually depends on the skater's weight, preference and ability.

Yes, hockey requires sharp skates. It costs what, $4 to sharpen skates? After a kid can skate he/she can choose to dull overshape skates on the gate, but it's easier to dull sharp skates than the opposite.

Yes. All players no matter how old, or how experienced, need to have their skates sharpened. Sharp skates grip the ice better, allowing the youngster to learn with confidence.

Better she learn to skate at first rather than to be clumsy. The sharp skates will make proper skating techniques flow naturally, whereas dull skates will encourage her to skate on her ankles. You should give the kid a helmet, elbow and knee protection of some sort, maybe even a mouth piece. Hot cocoa was always nice as i recall. with the little marshmallows please

Absolutly yes. In order to skate you need to have at least some edge on the skates. without it, your kid will become discouraged and never learn, not being able to stand on the ice.

Yes, not as often but they do eventually. Depending on how often they play and how good of a skater the player is...I'd say about 1-2 times a season.

If they arent dulled excessivly leave them. Skating is a bit tougher on freshly sharpend skates. Let him get the hang of it first..

when they are sharp they can cut into the ice better. which helps in sharp turns and makes the skid stops easyer. so yes it will help them learn faster
