You probably can't. The basic intro game runs about $30, and so do each of the books needed for the full game. You might be able to find the now-out-of-date 3rd edition books on ebay inexpensively, but I wouldn't count on $10 or less.

However, you can get most of the core rules for D&D free from WotC in the form of the System Reference Document (SRD) available here:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35

If you are already familiar with RPGs, or just need some info to join a game, this should work fine for you. If you want to try the game, it may be too overwhelming.

If you are a new player and just want to learn the game, I recommend looking for a game group in your area - many stores will host them. There's an upcoming worldwide D&D game day event, which will have intro games for new players. You don't need any materials of your own to get into the game if other players will teach you.

You can also ask questions and find groups at www.wizards.com/dnd.

Good luck and good gaming!

My vote is for Lord of the Rings Online. I have been playing it since 2007. They have all kinds of quests in it. It follows the story in the book with the epic quests. It's a lot of fun and they are always adding all kinds of new stuff. Why don't you play some of them and find out. I know you can play LOTRO for free and D&D is free too I think (if it's the one that is put out by Turbine). And I think (not sure) that Everquest 2 is free also. Not sure of Runes of Magic -- never heard of it. Only one I really have extensive experience with is LOTRO. How you play the game depends on what subscription level you have. It will be very reptitive if you have the basic free account but if you have a VIP account (pay a small sub fee -- can be as low as 9.99/mo) you have pretty much no limites on what you can do in the game as far as mounts, quest availability, level/storage/currency caps, etc. Try it out and see! :)

Well if you want to have D&D that cheap you should either buy it online using Ebay and things like that or download it in a pdf file (this is not legal) You need to do this because new the players handbook is about $ 34.95 and if you wan't to be the DM you need an extra book The dungeon master's guide which costs about that much. If you wnat to download it in pdf you need a torrent downloader and thepiratebay.org

It's not Dungeons & Dragons but it is free and it is pretty good. Here is a link to enable you to download Steve Jackson Games' GURPS Lite: http://e23.sjgames.com/
GURPS is an acronym for Generic Universal Role Playing System. It allows players to role play any genre with modifications. Enjoy!

Well, the older books (1st and 2nd edition, and even original 3rd edition) are much cheaper than the current set. You can get them on ebay for usually between $.99 and $.10.00

Now, I don't know if you can find a price for ALL of D&D for 10 bucks, but you can get a few books.

I've seen various AD&D books on clearance at stores like Hastings for about $3 to $5 each.

Look for someone who's mom is throwing them out after caling the kid's closet. She''l be glad to be rid of them...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I needed that. :D

Go to flea markets and garage sales.

Try eBay...

The board game itself is a collectors item.

The NEW "board" game, isn't...it's a table top game (to enhance the paper-and-pencil game), using $10 miniatures (each).

For the $40 books, try fleas and garage sales...You might find them for $20 each (and you'll need - at a minimum - the 3 core books, some dice, paper, pencil, and people willing to play. :D )

Either, "Nerds-R-Us" or "House of Shame". Good luck
