this sounds like a dumb question buti was sitting in class today and i wondered why do thing turn black when they are lit on fire!! i mean like not red or blue

Only organic things will burn, right? Burning will break the material down to it's original carbon, which is the remaining black substance. It's been awhile for me, but that's what I remember.

Basics are that all thing mostly are carbon based. hence when burned turn to carbon. with the exceptions of gases.
