I'm going to upgrade my laptop hard drive at the end of the week. Not a huge upgrade, I may only go up to a 60GB as I still haven't filled the 40GB drive - which I will also be using as an external hard drive in a USB enclosure.
I have seen a few hard drives, but a few that stand out are Western Digital ones. I've heard of the brand but never actually had to think about buying one, tell me, are they are good make or should I consider a different brand like Seagate?

Western Digital and Seagate are both good drives. The only issue I've ever had with a WD is that it doesn't play well with other drives. Follow the directions closely for multiple drives.

I have worked in the filed for a number of years and have come to find that you can really rely on Western Digitals. I have seen them dropped on concrete from 4 or 5 feet and still work fine. I very rarely see a Western Digital fail, but if it is within warranty, they usually have absolutely no problem replacing it.

western digital hard drives can take a beating. i had one before and i ran it forever until i started to see the signs that the drive was gonna die. Seagate is good too i never had issues with that brand i even dropped one and it still worked. Truthfully you could go with either one. Base your decision on price because they both are good brands.

To answer your question, yes. Most modern pc parts, like electrical appliances, are all ok if you go for brand names.Seagate/Maxtor are now the same company so there isn,t that many companies making hard drives in the world today that are poor.Rest assured ,Western Digital are up there with the best !!

format the HDD. to try this, plug it into your laptop, open up my laptop, then positioned your mouse cursor over the icon for the HDD, good click, then pass all the way down to format, and click the button that starts the approach.
