You want to time sex in the 3 or 4 days leading up to ovulation. If your man's sperm count is normal then start 4 days before expected ovulation and have sex once a day every day until you have ovulated. If his sperm is low have sex every other day starting 4 days before ovulation or have sex only on the day before expected ovulation. Sperm can live 3-5 days inside a woman where your egg only lives about 12 hours. The sperm have a ways to travel and need to be waiting on the egg to come into the tube. So that is why having sex only the day of ovulation or any days after will be almost noneffective in conceiving. Read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". My dr. recommended it and it is a great book. Best of luck ttc!!!!!

Before, after and a couple days after you ovulate. Your egg only has 12-24 hours to get fertilized. Sperm can live inside a woman's vagina for up to 5 days.

before is the best time, for the sperm would survive much longer then the egg, so having the sperm to wait on the egg would give u a better chance to get the egg fertilize
