I'm heading out on a 4-5 day trip across the US and I'm wondering if I purchased a Laptop with WiFi or other mode of internet access...would I or a passenger be able to be on the web while we are traveling in the car?

I'm assuming that certain "remote"areas would not allow this, but if traveling on say I-80 /I-70 from Chicago - LA what would the reception be like?

Has anyone ever tried this themselves?

There are some WiFi hot spots along the Interstates, particularly at rest areas and in some cities, but their range is extremely limited, and you won't be able to stay connected while driving on the highway.

You might consider installing a wireless cellular card in your laptop... These cards function just like cell phones, and have much better range and connections... You will have to pay a monthly subscription to AT&T or Verizon, but you should be able to surf the web on a broadband connection while cruising the highways!

1 - CPU is indeed the brains of a computer. It carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system. 2 - Laptops do have CPUs or they would not work like computers. Without this key component, the laptop would be worthless. A modern laptop has a heat sink to reduce the temperature of the CPU. 3 - If we place the CPU inside the monitor, we'd have to move a lot of other components as well. The CPU communicates with memory (and the hard disk when necessary) to read, write, and execute commands. Not only that but because of the many operations it performs while on, the fan needs to be nearby to prevent overheating. Also the current location offers a bit more protection than the monitor would. A tablet is a good example of how this can be accomplished. This is a short answer to your question. If you need more information or if there is something I did not touch on, please add more detail.

Like others have said, it will not work.

You have to be within a certain range of one network, but they only broadcast the signal so far.

By the time you come within distance of a good signal, you would drive right past it in an instant.

It will never work...

If you're desperate for internet in a car, follow one of the other Anwserers on here and go to your mobile store to ask about phones that can act as internet hubs. They take a signal from a sattelite and are able to have connection anywhere.

I have tried this before. Your laptop may detect a signal, but you wont be able to get internet because you need a password. If you had a card form T-Mobile or Verizion you could access the internet off of their network.

you would be able to but you are traveling so fast that you would lose it almost the second you connected to it so what you can do is go to either verizon or sprint and get one of their mobile internet usb cards or if you have a pda cell phone that has internet go yo the store where you bought it and ask them for a tether cord so you can tether your phone to your laptop and get internet
