Yes, I did the same thing! When I was a young girl I played with Barbies. When my daughter was little, guess what I bought her more than anything else? Barbies!

yes, this marketing ploy is probably the biggest reason. But also toys from my generation are far superior to the toys of today (except for the educational cartoons/toys, they are much better today). I had GI Joes, He Mans, Transformers etc (my sister had Barbie and My little Pony, and Strawberry Shortcake) these toys were great, and had limitless possibilities for the imagination to play with. If it isn't broke, dont fix it.

I think this is the case, also the toy is considered safe, and instantly forms a bond between the child and the parent/giver.
I did the same when my son was small.
The little wood airplanes with the rubber band propeller was a huge hit with my son, and his friends. (Also they are great because you have to run to play with them, and they are $$ inexpensive)
Other fathers, at the park, would ask me where I bought them, as it brought back good memories to them.
Man the memories are flooding in.
Peace.

I agree with you that nostalgia is part of the answer, and the other part is my girls will ask for certain toys which happen to be classic toys that seem to also have a ageless appeal across generations of kids.

I guess that because the people today that are making the toys had those toys when there were little and now they want to remake them or make a new version of them.

and the same clothes in the west and play the same songs and wear the sam hair styles. The older I get the more things stay the same. Frankly I prefer the most ancient traditions, clothes and beauty. (Vedic culture) the rest is just not so wonderful to me. Oh ya and they said we would be driving in small air cars but now they make cars that resemble old ones. No imagination I guess.

Because it's new to the kid...
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
'Cause it'll bring the parents back to their own childhood...
And a dozen other reasons.
In any case, the toys made today, whether the nostalgic ones, or the new ones, are made with the same crappy plastic and materials. They won't stand the kind of abuse we used to give our toys.
