first of all congradulations!!!! on loosing weight, being 50 and feeling young. You need to go to a dept. store like macy's and have your make done for free. they will recommend the right colors for you and your skin tone, etc. After that i would recommend you go to a dept store again, and ask a sales representative to help you out to pick an outfit(s). Tell them excately what you mention on your question. Try to avoid older women who will stir you in the wrong direction on what they consider "fashionable". If you lived in Chicago i would love to take you shopping. I use to be a persoanl shopper. I hope you find what you are loookig for and have fun doing it.

Avoid the poodle hair cut which resembles the tail of a trimmed poodle. It's popular for old women but I always hated that cut.

Dress in a business suit even if you are retired or never worked. It will make you look important (this will increase as your hair turns more grey) and this will avoid any cutesy things like bright flower dresses. If you like your legs, wear a skirt and if you don't wear pants. This only works if you live in an urban area.

Older women tend to overdo their makeup. Avoid that clown look. If you use any, go very light on it. Also avoid heavy perfumes. The rule has always been the smell shouldn't reach beyond 6 inches (a dab behind each ear) although some women wear enough heavy perfume to gag a classroom sized room.

I would recomend not trying to pretend you're a teenager anymore, and getting a more mature style; In my town there are many coture and high end fashion stores for women that have exquisite garments designed for more mature women, though Im not sure if it is the same where you live, if not catologues like boden (british) and peruvian connection have really classy, well made stuff (though a tad expensive). the main thing is class though, turning 50 and dressing 15 really says something about your taste, that is "juvenile".
I hope you find your own personal look though, this is just a rather biased suggestion :) good luck!
