i have a washing machine that is made by Gibson...everything works fine except when it goes to spin.....if it has water or clothing in it....it will not spin only make the noise like it's switching into "spin mode" and then nothing but when the clothes are out and the tub is empty is spins extremely fast...what's my problem?

it is a belt driven washing machine and the belt seems in perfect condition

If you have a Gibson Washer, it must be very old. I doubt if you will be able to get parts for it if it is the Gibson brand I'm thinking of. Time to buy a new one. Cheaper than fixing in a case as yours

Depends on if it is belt driven or transmission. Belt may be worn and with any weight, it slips. Transmission could also have leaked fluid or be worn out.

the answer from sensible man is very sensible. The other sensible thing is to always insure washing machines as they can cost a fortune to repair . whatever the problem is ,I think you will have to call a repairer
