No, because I have worked in journalism for a long time, so I don't have to ask. Stories are chosen based on their shock value. If you can help the viewer feel superior to the person who is the subject of the story, that's a bonus.
There are a few of us with standards, toiling away at home. I worked all night un-tangling a complicated story about zoning, and the only reason it's going to get used is because it has some stuff about septic tanks. Poop sells! Of course, if the cops can find a mentally ill woman with a lot of cats and a really dirty house, my story will be dumped. But we don't do it for glory.

All the time. Kacky has it right. News is only about creating emotional reaction. This is why the "big three" and the "papers of record" are getting their heads kicked in. New and old mediums are being more successafully used to get the news out rather than to shape it.

Yes,I ask myself that this morning. Why is Britney still in the news? Her PR man must love to keep someone informed. She is just a regular person with a drug problem. It should be put in the past, not a daily news item.I think people should do really good things to be in the news.Positive is so nice.It glorifies drugs for our young. That is not needed in their lives....

All of the time. IT happens mostly when they talk about celebrity drama. I'm just like, why do people even care about this?
