I have vivid dreams that are usually about my daily life - the dream scenes (settings) and characters are often of those I encounter on a day-to-day basis.

When I don't take the time to write some of the dreams down (for interpretation later) due to not remembering enough information, I suddenly remember little bits of the dream during my day (in real life) and then sometimes can't tell the difference between reality and the dream.

How can I distinguish between reality and the dreams? = }

Waking life is a great movie that deals with this very issue. It is shot exactly like what you are describing. Throughout the whole movie this guy that can't discern between sleep and waking life askes a lot of philosophical and practical questions regarding his situation. Even if you don't get all the answers you seek it might make you feel better that you share this phenomenon with others.

I have the same problem! I thought I was the only one on the planet! I once spent a week dodging a co-worker, until I finally realized that it was only in a dream that I had an issue with him.

I find a quick reality check can sometime help determine truth from dream. I ask myself 'is this something that the "real life" person would share/do/say/ask?' Of course, if your dreams are really really close to reality, that might not work.

I also look for continutity. For example if I "remember" a friend showing off a wedding ring, but they aren't dating anyone, the ring was probably in a dream.

Thankfully, most of my friends know about my dream/reality thing, so I can actually ask them "did I tell you that..." or "are you and so-and-so really....or was it in my dream?" and they don't think I'm nuts.

Hope this helps!
