Can anyone recommend a good book about getting in to the acting industry? It is for a teenaged girl (around 15) who wants to know how to best prepare herself for an acting career.

Only serious answers please, I've already warned my sister it will be difficult. I want to send her something that will actually help her out! Also looking for any other books that might help her with her theory / method - what ever it is actors need to know, I'm even more clueless than her.

Any help appreciated!

When I was 13 I won a school prize for drama and my parents had to pick me up a prize they felt appropriate. Well my father picked up a book called 'Other People's Shoes' by an actress called Harriet Walter. It is her insight and personal thoughts on acting as a profession. I would recommend this book to any inspiring actor/actress and although you may not know who she is you will learn alot from her experiences.

Hope this helps

Acting as a Business by O:Neil and Breaking into Acting for Dummies. cover the business read my profile, My book, The Tao of Acting is filled with things she will need to know to get into acting. I would avoid heavy reading like Stanislavki and Hagen and Meisner for now. My book is full of practical things she can do to be an actress and it is free. Write me at my aol address in my profile for instructions on how to get it.
